Italy 2017: Abruzzi and the Amalfi Coast

From mountains to vineyards, and coast to coast. Experience the backroads of Italy!

This trip is back by request and customized for family and friends of the Loreno's. The tour includes some of the most beautiful parts of old-world Italy. Travel to a land where it's possible to imagine time has stood still for centuries. Explore medieval castles and fortresses. Feast on scrumptious local delicacies. Meet the friendly locals. We will visit small villages and towns along the Adriatic coast, experience hands-on traditional old-world culture in Abruzzi, and top it all off with a favorite vacation hideaway of ancient Roman emperors on the island of Capri.

Group flights are currently departing from JFK airport in New York. It is the responsiblity of each traveler to arrange their own transportation to and from JFK; however, please do not book transportation until you receive the go-ahead from the travel leader (Kristin Peterson). Italy 2017 Overview and Itinerary:
Abruzzi and the Amalfi Coast

 Abruzzi JudyDay 1 (Monday, June 12): Flight to Italy

 Meet at JFK airport for evening group flight to Rome.


Day 2 (Tuesday, June 13): Rome to Teramo

Benvenuti in Italia! Private coach pickup and scenic afternoon drive through Gran Sasso National Park to Teramo (Grandpa's birthplace) stopping along the way for coffee/snack. Check into hotel for 2-night stay in the historic center of Teramo. Free time to explore the town at leisure followed by dinner in Teramo. 



Abruzzi CBDay 3 (Wednesday, June 14): Family towns

After breakfast at the hotel, spend the day along the Adriatic coast visiting the towns of our ancestors: Teramo (Grandpa Loreno's birthplace), Montepagano (Grandpa and Grandma were married here), Giulianova (Aunt Nuncy's birthplace), Tortoreto, church of San Nicola (Langiotti's were once major patrons), Grottammare (home of Langiotti ancestors), and Cupra Marittima (Grandma's birthplace). Visit Civitella del Tronto and dinner either in the medieval fortress or at an agriturismo en route back to Teramo. 



Day 4 (Thursday, June 15): Experience old-world traditions in Vasto  Tomatoes

After breakfast at the hotel, load luggage and depart Teramo for a hands-on traditional experience in Vasto. Enjoy an old-world farm experience with milking, ricotta cheese and bread making, and vegetable harvest. Lunch at the farmhouse with all ingredients produced on site. This afternoon visit Roccascalegna - "Abruzzo's Castle in the Sky."  Dinner and overnight in Opi, a medieval mountain village in Abruzzo National Park.

Breakfast in Opi followed by visits to the small villages in Abruzzo National Park. Lunch in one of the mountain towns, then travel to Pompei for an early evening visit to the ruins. Dinner and overnight in Pompei. 



Day 6 (Saturday, June 17): Amalfi Coast  positano1 550 plain

 Breakfast and morning departure from hotel. Enjoy breathtaking views while traveling along Italy's famous coastline, stopping at scenic points and to explore towns like Ravello, Positano, and Sorrento. Check into Sorrento hotel for a 2-night stay. Free time for souvenir shopping and dinner in Sorrento.



blue grotto capriDay 7 (Sunday, June 18): Capri

Breakfast at the hotel to gear up for today's adventure: ferry to the island of Capri and a morning boat tour, squeezing into the Blue Grotto! Then ride the chairlift to the top of Mount Solaro and enjoy the beautiful views while hiking back down. Free time and shopping in Capri's Piazzetta, followed by dinner on the island. Evening ferry back to Sorrento. 



Day 8 (Monday, June 19): Naples and Rome  pizza

 Catch the high speed ferry to Naples this morning and explore the city's rich history by foot. For lunch, a taste Italy's most famous pizza. Afternoon train ride to Rome and check into hotel. Dinner and evening near Trevi Fountain.


Day 9 (Tuesday, June 20): Flight home

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to Rome Fiumicino Airport for morning flight home.
